The Price of Survival (2003)

Over thirty years ago, Louis van Gasteren filmed *BEGRIJPT U NU WAAROM IK HUIL?*, a documentary about a therapeutic LSD session conducted by Professor Jan Bastiaans with a former prisoner of German concentration camps who had suffered trauma. The patient passed away in late 2000 at the age of 81, leaving behind a wife and three children. The film includes moving conversations with his widow and youngest son, alongside excerpts from letters from his other two children, suggesting that the effects of concentration camp trauma can resonate deeply even with those who did not experience it firsthand.
