Description:
The Magic Show is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Bob Randall, starring magician Doug Henning. Produced by Edgar Lansbury, it premiered on May 28, 1974, at the Cort Theatre in New York City, and played for 1,920 performances before closing on December 31, 1978. Henning received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, and director Grover Dale was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical. A filmed version of the 1980 Toronto production, directed by Norman Campbell, was released on DVD in 2001 by Image Entertainment. This filmed production, initially intended for movie theaters, featured some songs not included in the original Broadway show. Didi Conn co-starred as Cal, with Doug Henning reprising his leading role.
