Description:
Basse Normandie is inspired by real events. The film stars Simon Reggiani and Patricia Mazuy, who are married in real life. They filmed the making of one of Simon’s plays and then recreated the story behind it. Simon prepares for a one-man show that features extensive dressage riding. The regional government wants to use the play to boost its reputation, so they arrange for Simon to perform before a large audience of farmers at an agricultural congress in Paris. A stud farm owner provides him with rehearsal space. The film documents Reggiani’s journey to create the performance, encountering challenges like difficult stable staff, a temperamental horse, and vocal issues. It's a unique blend of filmed theater, a behind-the-scenes documentary, mockumentary elements, and dressage instruction.
