Description:
Baron Philippe de Valois, recently ruined, encounters a traveling theater troupe led by Herod. Drawn to Isabella, the actress playing the lead role, and the troupe's energy, he takes over as their poet. He becomes the character Captain Sunder during performances. Isabella develops feelings for Philippe but resists marriage, not wanting his noble status to be sacrificed. When Duke Vallombrosa becomes infatuated with her, Philippe challenges him to a duel. After losing, Vallombrosa sends his men after Sunder and takes Isabella. The troupe storms the castle where she's being held, seriously injuring Vallombrosa. His father arrives, and Isabella discovers he was once an actress. With that revelation, the path to a relationship between Sunder and Isabella becomes uncertain, observed by Herod and Scapin.
