Description:
Night Sun, based on Leo Tolstoy's novel Father Sergius, follows Sergio (Julian Sands), an 18th-century Italian nobleman betrothed to a duchess (Nastassja Kinski). When he discovers her past as the King’s mistress, Sergio rejects his privileged life and enters monastic life. At the hermitage, he strives to overcome temptation and gains a reputation as a miracle worker. However, he eventually falls for a young woman and, feeling unworthy of the praise he receives, abandons the monastery to wander as a homeless beggar.
