XY Chromosome Project (2007)

Lynne Sachs and Mark Street, artists and parents of two daughters, create films and performances exploring the connection between the natural world and media. Inspired by a residency at the Experimental Television Center, they developed "The X Y Chromosome Project," a collaborative piece where they react instinctively to each other's work, editing back and forth without overthinking. The resulting diptych structure shifts between intense conflict and graceful partnership, juxtaposing newsreel footage of Ronald Reagan's assassination attempt with intimate domestic scenes and Christmas movie trailers. The film navigates between surface appearances and deeper meanings with seamless fluidity.
