Description:
In 2009, Jörg Buttgereit adapted his stage play "Captain Berlin vs. Hitler," originally a radio play, into a film. The story is a re-imagining of an 1980s Italian horror film. A mysterious stranger begins stealing hearts from bodies in a New York City morgue. Detective Jack Romero and anthropologist Andrea Spinell investigate a series of ritualistic mutilations, leading them to a remote island tribe. There, Dr. Fulci seeks to transform the islanders into emotionless zombies. Buttgereit's adaptation reflects the video revolution and the popularity of splatter films, cannibalism, and zombie narratives.
