Killed (2009)

During the Great Depression, the Farm Security Administration documented American life through photographs. Thousands of images taken between 1935 and 1943 were deliberately discarded by Roy Stryker and his team. They destroyed negatives by punching holes in them, preventing their publication. These destroyed negatives were stored but remained unseen until recently. When the Library of Congress digitized FSA negatives, many of these damaged images were included. "Killed" presents these suppressed images, with the holes as a central visual element, in a rapid montage offering a glimpse into an unofficial portrayal of Depression-era America.
