Myth of Father (2001)

"Myth of Father" is a video documentary exploring acceptance. The film follows my journey to understand my father, Jodie, who is a trans woman. After she came out to me a few years ago, I've been re-examining our shared history to understand who she truly is – not just for myself, but for the whole family. The documentary contrasts my relationship with my father with the relationship she had with her own father. I interview my father and other family members who share memories of her younger years: "He seemed to live a normal life. He liked cars, rock bands, joined the Army…married…had a child…" But as she reveals, no one really knew her. "No one knew who I was. I damaged relationships with everyone I knew, including my own son."
