Description:
During the early days of television, when children looked up to heroes like the Lone Ranger, the Texas Kid was a frontier hero fighting for justice with his Mexican friend Pepe. This rarely seen pilot shows the Kid and Pepe helping the murdered daughter of a rancher, openly challenging ruthless land grabbers in a town where lawlessness is rampant. Filmed at the Corrigan Ranch in 1950, *Texas Kid* starred Mercury Records artist John Laurenz as Pepe and stuntman Hugh Hooker as the Kid. Hooker, known for his horse and stagecoach stunts and having doubled Gene Autry, even produced some films. One of those films starred his son Buddy Joe Hooker, whose successful stunt career later inspired *Hooper* (1978), Burt Reynolds' comedy tribute to movie stuntmen.
