Description:
This documentary explores the surprising popularity of Edgar Wallace films in post-war Germany. The British writer, largely forgotten elsewhere in the 1950s as outdated and unappealing, found a devoted audience in Germany. This was due to a pent-up demand for crime thrillers following the Second World War, as the Nazi regime had banned them. Consequently, Edgar Wallace's films were among the first of their kind to be produced in Germany since the expressionist era.
