A Matter of Reputation (2001)

A celebrated, middle-aged film director, once at the pinnacle of world cinema and an Oscar winner, now exists as a broken man, supported by a young woman while drowning his sorrows in a cramped apartment. A gifted young pianist, who once looked to him for guidance in achieving musical greatness, is now a dangerous fugitive. A hospital doctor, battling addiction, endures agonizing delays for a life-saving operation. A young nurse carries the emotional scars of childhood abuse, lamenting a past she feels she should have endured instead of her brother. Their lives intersect when a struggling film producer offers the director a chance at redemption – to write a screenplay. The resulting film and script follow these adrift individuals as they collide in the forgotten corners of society.
