Description:
"A Guest of Life" draws from the story of Alexander Csoma de Koros, a peculiar 19th-century man who walked from his home in Transylvania to central Asia, armed only with knowledge of thirteen languages. He sought the origins of the Hungarian people, but ultimately settled in Tibet, where he created an English-Tibetan dictionary and translated Buddhist texts, including the Book of the Dead. The film isn't a biography; instead, it presents impressions of Tibet captured on 8mm film, combined with excerpts from Csoma’s diary and his translations, spoken in the languages he knew. Documentary footage is interspersed with animated Transylvanian folktales that have grown around the legend of Csoma.
