Description:
"Seven Intellectuals in Bamboo Forest" is a five-part film series completed in 2007 and presented as a whole at the Venice Biennale that year. Yang Fudong explores identity formation through myths, personal memories, and experiences. The films evoke the contradictions between China's past and present. The first part, filmed on Yellow Mountain – a location of importance in traditional Chinese painting – combines evocative scenery, ambiguous character motivations, and music to create an almost poetic atmosphere.
