Description:
STARMANIA is a cyberpunk rock opera that first appeared on stage in 1979. In a near-future where most developed nations have combined into one state called "The Occident," Zéro Janvier, the CEO of the largest corporation, seeks the presidency by promising to destroy the terrorist group The Black Stars and their leader, Johnny Rockfort. He secretly enlists the Stars' information broker, Sadia, and courts retiring film star Stella Spotlight. Meanwhile, Johnny Rockfort plans to kidnap television star Cristal, but unexpectedly falls in love with her. Amidst these interwoven stories are Marie-Jeanne, a waitress at the Black Stars' hangout, and her friend Ziggy, a devoted David Bowie fan hoping to appear on Cristal's popular music show, STARMANIA. The opera explores themes of terrorism, totalitarianism, and personal freedom through these parallel love stories.
