It's 1960. At eleven years old, Vincenzo leaves his family behind in a small village in Basilicata to find his shoemaker brother in Rome. As Italy experiences an economic boom, he finds work in a bar and finishes school. His life appears to be improving, but a painful discovery changes everything. Determined to build a better life for himself and his brother, Vincenzo starts a business, gaining social standing in the city. However, he's always haunted by the absence of his family, especially his brother Giovanni.
