Filmed over three years, the documentary offers an unprecedented look at David Hockney creating art. It follows his return to England after 25 years in California. Approaching 70, he begins a new phase of painting, working outdoors in the Yorkshire countryside through all seasons and weather, culminating in his largest outdoor artwork to date. The film is a story of returning home and an intimate portrait of what inspires the greatest living British artist as he reflects on his life. Winner of a Best Essay award in Montreal and nominated for Grierson and International Emmy Awards, the documentary originally aired on BBC1 and is presented here in a special extended 60-minute version.
