Ishti (2016)

The film centers on a traditional Namboodiri family in a conservative society. It follows Ramavikraman Namboodiri, a 70-year-old Vedic scholar who keeps the sacred fire from a ritual to light his funeral pyre, and Sreedevi, his young third wife who challenges tradition. Sreedevi encourages her husband’s son from a previous marriage to learn to read and write. The story explores the conflicts between these characters and those around them, ultimately commenting on the struggle to reconcile personal desires with the constraints of caste and tradition.
