Crash and Burn follows the exciting and challenging career of Irish racing driver Tommy Byrne as he approached Formula 1 in the 1980s, having come from a working-class background. Directed by Seán Ó Cualáin, the film examines Byrne’s clear talent and rebellious nature, which distinguished him in racing but also created conflict with Formula 1's traditional, upper-class environment. Byrne’s journey includes successes and setbacks, from winning lower-level races to his short, difficult time in Formula 1 and what followed. The documentary uses interviews, old footage, and personal reflections to show the different sides of Byrne and his potential in motorsport.
