Paradise Lost (2003)

Paradise is a Palestinian fishing village on the Mediterranean coast, located within Israel, with a past marked by a massacre and displacement. When a director researches her village's hidden history, she finds more than she anticipated. Her mother warns her not to emulate Sou'ad, a legendary rebellious woman from the village. Accused and imprisoned in the 1970s for PLO activism, Sou'ad becomes a significant figure for the director. As the director delves deeper into her research, she faces increasing difficulties. This film blends personal reflection with historical investigation, exploring the re-telling of a lost history and the evolving role of women within a traditional community.
