In Los Angeles, a young lawyer navigates the challenges of becoming a famous superhero while also making a movie about her transformation. While visiting her cousin Bruce, who is fleeing the law, Jennifer Walters is critically wounded in an attack orchestrated by gangster Nick Trask. Bruce saves her with a blood transfusion, inadvertently transferring his powers to her, turning her into a remarkable new heroine. As her father, Sheriff Morris Walters, views her with suspicion and Nick Trask declares her a target, Jennifer struggles with the question of whether she is truly a monster – capable of killing Nick Trask – or something entirely different. She must also decide if her growing feelings for childhood friend Zapper are more important than her destiny as a superhero.
