Description:
A decade before World War II in Asia, a Japanese Go master meets his Chinese rival for a game of Go in China. The Japanese master quickly recognizes the exceptional talent of the Chinese master's son and persuades the boy's father to let him take the child to Japan for professional training. As the young Chinese master matures in Japan, the Japanese invasion of China forces him to choose between his successful career and his loyalty to his homeland. His decision is complicated by his marriage to the Japanese master’s daughter and the birth of their child. This choice deeply impacts both families, reflecting the tragic relationship between the two nations and hinting at a chance for reconciliation.
