During a dinner, wealthy Monty Laurence Blue seeks relationship advice from his friend, music producer Comma. As Monty rises to leave for the restroom, he accidentally encounters Lynn Ross, a human resources director who is in a relationship but unfulfilled. Lynn's coworker, Michelle, notices the connection and urges Lynn to speak with Monty, but Lynn initially dismisses the idea, preferring successful men and finding Monty unremarkable. Michelle convinces Lynn to reconsider, suggesting she lower her standards for a good time. Lynn introduces herself to Monty as Comma watches. After Lynn leaves, Comma calls her a gold digger and advises Monty that to win her over, he should pretend to be an ordinary working-class man. A bet between the two friends leads them to question what genuine love truly means.
