This movement was connected to major art centers throughout Yugoslavia and international artistic trends, including events like the 7th Biennale de Paris and the 19th Berlin Film Festival. Driven by a desire for individual expression and a rejection of traditional boundaries, the avant-garde challenged the communist regime, resulting in censorship, sabotage of artworks, film bans, and persecution of its members – including trials and imprisonment. The film questions why this suppression of creative progress remains relevant today.
