Description:
In Argentinian Patagonia, Gerónima, a Mapuche Indian woman, lives with her four sons in a modest home on land her family has owned for generations. In 1976, during the military dictatorship that resulted in the disappearance of 30,000 people, social workers visit Gerónima and her sons, concerned about their living conditions and health. They take the entire family to the hospital "to help," with devastating results. The film reconstructs Gerónima's story based on an interview conducted by a doctor while she was hospitalized. The lead actress, Luisa Calcumil, is a Mapuche woman, and Aimé Painé, the singer who performs authentic Mapuche songs in the film, is also a Mapuche.
