Description:
Sherine Salama's film tells the story of a marriage between an American-based Palestinian man, Bassam Abed, and a young woman named Mariam, who comes from a traditional village background. Bassam, a telephone repairman in Cleveland, Ohio, travels to Ramallah to find a wife. They marry, and the film offers a glimpse into their arranged wedding. Afterward, it follows their difficult efforts to obtain a visa for Mariam to join Bassam in America, and her experience adjusting to life in Cleveland, where she struggles with isolation.
