Orpheus Descending (2005)

The film chronicles the life and work of Sergey Paradzhanov. He was scheduled to travel to Yerevan on December 15, 1973, to begin filming a project based on Andersen's fairy tales, but unexpectedly changed his plans and departed for Kiev that same day. Two days later, on December 17th, he was arrested. The film details the years Paradzhanov spent imprisoned, exploring the origins of his spiritual strength – the sources that allowed him to withstand not only the harsh realities of prison life, but the challenges of life itself, and ultimately fueled his extraordinary talent, which he paid for dearly.
