Description:
The Philippine-American War, a largely forgotten conflict of the past century, reveals disturbing echoes of future wars. Tactics like waterboarding and search-and-destroy were first employed during the U.S.'s attempt to "civilize" the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. In the decade following, more Filipinos died at the hands of American troops than during 300 years of Spanish rule; over a million Filipinos perished between 1899 and 1913. This experimental documentary uses archival photos, early film, video, and 16mm footage to reconstruct this forgotten history. A contemporary Filipina-American narrator guides viewers through the complex story, blending history, documentary techniques, and cinematic storytelling.
