Description:
Sten Lehtoja, a married businessman in his middle years, picks up a young hitchhiker named Elsie on his way to his summer house. She stays the night, and they begin an affair. Later that summer, Elsie also starts an affair with Reino, the teenage son of a local shopkeeper. Sten offers to divorce his wife, and Elsie agrees to marry him once the divorce is finalized, drawn to the promise of social standing. One night, Reino climbs a ladder to enter their room, falls, and dies. To avoid scandal, Sten hides the body. However, guilt destroys their relationship, and Elsie contacts the police, leading to Reino's arrest.
