Description:
In Torre del Lago, by Lake Massaciuccoli, Puccini is composing "The Girl of the Golden West" when his wife Elvira accuses him of having an affair with their maid, Doria Manfredi. Despite his frequent infidelities, Puccini denies the affair, but Elvira is convinced and publicly harasses Doria. Interwoven with this domestic drama, the film follows a Scottish company rehearsing and staging Puccini's final opera, "Turandot." The film draws connections between the two stories, suggesting that in the opera, Puccini expresses love for his wife and remorse for Doria’s destiny. Throughout the film, a local chorus speaks as Puccini’s music plays.
