Description:
In this Australian drama, a teenager named Shaun (Kane McNay) struggles to navigate life in a struggling Melbourne suburb. His father, Sam (Brett Swain), is incarcerated, and his mother, Jenny (Nell Feeney), is overwhelmed by alcohol, leaving Shaun largely on his own. He turns to petty crime, drug use, and dealing to fit in with his friends at the local shopping mall. Despite attempts by his girlfriend (Lauren Hawker) and a social worker named Darren (Brett Tucker) to connect with him, Shaun remains isolated. When his father is released and brings his new partner to a welcome-home party, Shaun understands he must face his challenges independently. *Mallboy* is the feature film debut of writer/director Vincent Giarrusso.
