Description:
The film follows Terenti, a reindeer hunter and leader, and his family – his wife Maïa, daughter Anna, brother Vassia, and grandfather – who live in their traditional dwelling. Anna’s cousin Konstantin is also with them. One morning, Anna witnesses the trail of a Dolgan family throughout the day. The film offers a glimpse into the Tundra of Siberia, home to the Taïmyr’s last nomadic people. Filmed in 2000, the project used two cameras – one inside a dwelling and another capturing the sun's movement – to provide an intimate look at Maïa’s daily life alongside the traditional methods her culture uses to survive. Simultaneously, it captures a broad view of their environment. The film documents the animistic way of life of these nomads, who largely ignore the presence of the camera as they go about their daily routines. The result is a poignant and informative portrait.
