Description:
Narjiss Nejjar's debut feature, *Cry No More*, follows Mina (Raouia), a former prostitute released after 25 years in prison. Bus driver Fahd (Khalid Benchegra) escorts her to a remote Berber village where prostitution is the only permitted form of male presence. To navigate the restrictions, Fahd poses as Mina's son. He becomes drawn to Mina's daughter, Hala (Siham Assif), who seeks to break the village's cycle of exploitation. Hala's daughter, Zinba Rafiqua Belhaj, is about to undergo a traditional rite of passage. As Hala plots to end the sex trade, Mina keeps her true identity hidden, though the village elders remember her. *Cry No More* premiered at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival's Director's Fortnight.
