Description:
To ease the burden on the village women, a parish meeting agrees to hire a shared housekeeper who will work one week at each household, with the schedule determined by random drawing. The two unmarried men in the village also claim the right to the housekeeper, arguing they are taxpayers. When Elsa Haglund arrives from Gothenburg for her first week with shopkeeper Sjökvist, he becomes instantly smitten and begins flirting with her. Later, she meets Eric Broo, the shy farmer known as "the singing farmer," and falls in love, unsure how to attract his attention. Meanwhile, Åsa-Nisse, the village prankster, continues his mischievous antics.
