Die Blutritter (2004)

The film follows participants and onlookers during the Ride of Blood in Weingarten, Europe's largest equestrian procession, involving as many as 3,000 riders and 30,000 pilgrims. Catholics from across Upper Swabia actively participate in this event. The film features a country butcher and his family, beekeepers, a friend with Indian heritage from Waldburg, customs researcher and museum founder Jürgen Hohl, a monk, and the abbot of Weingarten Monastery. With a touch of irony, Wolfsperger presents a complex view of society that explores deeper questions about faith, relationships, and mortality, going beyond simple religious traditions and local legends.
