Eleven-year-old Takasumi Takane needs to score in the top 100 on his exam to get a new bicycle. He doesn’t make the cut, placing 112th, so he lies to his mother, claiming he got 92nd, and destroys his exam paper. Later, on the way home from cram school, he accidentally breaks the old bicycle he was supposed to give to his little sister, Tamaki, upsetting her. She accuses him of lying, and he starts to resent her. While searching for his lost dog, Chris, at a shrine, Takasumi meets Yoyogi, who possesses the answer sheet marked "92nd." Yoyogi offers a trade, threatening to return the paper unless Takane gives him something he doesn't need.
