Beginning in 2006, WAKE (SUBIC) concludes a nine-hour documentary exploring toxic contamination around former US military bases in the Philippines. This is the second part of FOR EXAMPLE, THE PHILIPPINES, the first part of which, VAPOR TRAIL (CLARK), was released in 2010. The films examine historical amnesia, colonial privilege, and the effects of excessive militarism through cinéma-vérité footage and interviews with Filipino victims, their families, environmental advocates, and community organizers. They also incorporate historical photographs, songs, texts, and landscape photography related to the Philippine-American War. The project aims to portray the human and environmental tragedy and the challenges of finding solutions.
