Lucie (1979)

In late 19th-century Christiania (Oslo), opportunities for women were limited. Variety theaters and brothels thrived, offering a path to income for those who could leverage their looks. Lucie, a beautiful variety actress, attracts the attention of Gerner, a refined lawyer. Their courtship blossoms into an affair fueled by stolen moments and calculated manipulation. Lucie expertly exploits Gerner's jealousy and ego, ultimately marrying him and achieving social advancement. However, her new life among the upper class exposes the stark contrast to her humble origins, while her past continues to haunt Gerner with suspicion. The marriage deteriorates as resentment and mistrust deepen between them.
