In 1971, author and film scholar Donald Richie wrote a poetic travelogue exploring Japan’s Inland Sea, documenting his quest for traditional living and his own personal growth. Two decades later, filmmaker Lucille Carra took a similar journey inspired by Richie's book, filming scenes of quiet beauty and encountering people preserving the customs Richie had noted.
