Description:
Germany, WWII: After a bombing attack claims her family and twin brother Doug, 10-year-old Dagmar flees with a young girl who used to work at her parents' bakery. They seek refuge with distant relatives in Bavaria. The girl feels uneasy in the unfamiliar household but finds a friend in Laurent, a 17-year-old French employee. Laurent is constantly harassed by August, the family’s leader, who threatens to send him to a harsh reform school in France if he causes trouble. Dagmar and Laurent develop a close bond, becoming each other's only support, and Dagmar begins to develop feelings for him. When August witnesses them embracing, he instigates a confrontation, resulting in Laurent's deportation back to France.
