Description:
"Grozny Blues" centers on several individuals in Grozny, Chechnya, where political control, strict traditions, forced religious observance, and unresolved past conflicts shape everyday existence. The film follows four women who have long advocated for human rights, but grow increasingly disheartened by the worsening conditions under Putin’s Russia. Their workplace houses a Blues Club popular with young people who have hazy recollections of the Chechen wars of the 1990s and struggle to understand the current turmoil in their nation. Through interwoven personal stories and political realities, Nicola Bellucci portrays the complexities of life in a society caught between war and peace, oppression and freedom, tradition and modernity.
