Description:
Director Erich Langjahr profiles a handful of Switzerland's last shepherds as the new millennium approaches. The film explores how this ancient way of life persists in the modern world. At a measured pace, Langjahr documents the shepherd, their flock, dogs, and mules navigating snow-covered landscapes, mountain paths, and busy roads. Constant care for the sheep and physically demanding work define a shepherd's existence. They live outdoors or in remote huts and caravans, often unreachable by car. While away from home for extended periods, their families grow and children mature. Yet, they embrace this life as a deliberate choice. One shepherd explains, "I just can’t sit still. As long as I'm healthy, I'll always be moving. Anywhere in the world, I want to be on the go forever."
