Description:
This is the story of legal trailblazer Mary Bonauto and her partnership with Vermont lawyers Beth Robinson and Susan Murray. Over two decades, they fought for marriage equality, laying the groundwork for the national movement. Facing strong opposition, they achieved historic milestones: Vermont was the first state to legally recognize same-sex couples in 1999 and the first to legalize same-sex marriage through a legislative vote in 2009. As Marty Rouse of HRC put it, "They really changed the course of American history." The film features interviews with Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson, civil rights icon Representative John Lewis, and Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally.
