Description:

India is rapidly growing in global importance. Yet, hidden from the gleaming hotels near Mumbai airport lies a sprawling slum filled with determined residents. Zehrunisa and her son Abdul hope to recycle enough waste to build a real home. Twelve-year-old Sunil dreams of eating enough to grow as tall as Kalu, the local thief. Asha plots to steal government aid, believing it will elevate her status, while her daughter Manju aspires to be the slum's first female graduate. But their plans are precarious; a global economic downturn threatens their recycling income, and a shocking accusation from another resident could ruin lives and devastate the community.
