Description:
In the Netherlands, nine-year-old Bonnie lives with her mother, Lis, and grandmother. The family shares a deep affection for elephants, a legacy from Bonnie's great-grandfather's work in Africa, which Bonnie feels connects to her own nature. Lis battles bipolar disorder, experiencing extended periods of inactivity alongside bursts of erratic behavior. Bonnie’s grandmother has always been the anchor, managing the household. After her grandmother's sudden death in a car accident, Bonnie is forced to take on adult responsibilities, struggling with everyday tasks and coaxing her mother to manage her medication. Meanwhile, Bonnie must also navigate the interference of Jorien, a social worker determined to place her in foster care.
