Description:
Decades ago, New York City flophouses sheltered nearly 25,000 men living on the fringes. Now, very few remain. Filmmaker Michael Dominic explores the Sunshine Hotel, one of the last affordable havens for the destitute, a place seemingly frozen in time for over eighty years. Residents live in cramped, four-by-six-foot cubicles with chicken wire ceilings. Focusing on several people at the hotel – including a transgender woman saving for surgeries and a philosophical manager – Dominic offers an unbiased look at a varied cast of characters as compelling as those in Eugene O’Neill’s “The Iceman Cometh.”
