Description:
Before the war, Soviet worker Pyotr and German engineer Hans meet during a business trip to the USSR. At a Soviet plant, their teams collaborate. When Hans makes a mistake causing an explosion and casualties, he is confronted by Pyotr, the only witness. Pyotr is also vulnerable; his presence near the furnace risks accusations of sabotage and a death sentence. Initially suspicious of each other, they develop a silent understanding that blossoms into friendship, noticing their similarities, including having young children. Pyotr secretly leaves town with his family, but Hans feels a sense of loss rather than relief at the disappearance of the witness to his error.
