Description:
In 1915, Biograph Company made history by hiring Black-American actor Bert Williams to star in, produce, direct, and write his own films – a level of control unprecedented for a Black person in the mainstream movie industry at the time. His two films for Biograph were *A Natural Born Gambler* and *Fish*, both released in 1916. Bert lives in a simple cottage with his parents and two younger brothers. Ordered to chop wood, he tries to avoid work, preferring to fish. While his brothers haul large pieces of wood, Bert reluctantly carries small kindling. As soon as he can, he escapes to a stream and happily fishes. He quickly catches a large fish and decides to sell it in a wealthier part of town.
