From our perspective on Earth, light travels incredibly fast. However, when considering the immense distances of the universe, it's actually quite slow. This animation shows, in real time, the journey of a photon of light emitted from the sun's surface as it travels through a section of our solar system, viewed from a human point of view. For the sake of the visualization, some details, like planetary and asteroid alignments, and relativistic effects on photons, were simplified. However, the relative sizes and distances of all celestial objects were kept as accurate as possible. The animation concludes just beyond Jupiter to maintain a runtime under one hour.
