Next to Last (Autumn 63) (2013)

French actor and director Mathieu Amalric (who won Best Director at Cannes) explores one of Edward Hopper's most enigmatic paintings in a private collection in Arlington. As the film incorporates the final four Lieder of Strauss and excerpts from a speech by John F. Kennedy – sounds Hopper reportedly listened to while painting – Amalric delves into the painting's hidden meanings, examining its darkest details.
